MWANZA URBAN WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION AUTHORITY (MWAUWASA) is one of the 25 selected water operators to participate in the Dutch WaterWorX program. It was selected by VITENS EVIDES INTERNATIONAL (VEI) from the Netherlands and signed a Water Operator Partnership (WOP) agreement under a program nicknamed ‘KARIBU MAJI MWANZA PROJECT’ to improve overall performance by building capacity of staff as both the partners mutually understand that capacity development is key to utility turn around in performance. The WaterWorX, is a four years program that is largely funded by the government of the Netherlands. The program intends to achieve the following three key objectives at its completion: – Increase WASH coverage, particularly in the Low Income Areas (SDG6) by serving 33,000 poor people by year 2021 with direct project investments and 100,000 people until 2021 as part of ongoing MWAUWASA Reduce Non-Revenue Water by 10% point (pp) by year 2021.
