The National Electoral Commission (NEC) is an independent State Institution established in 1993 under Article 74 (1) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania in 1977. And the National Electoral Commission is composed of the following members: -

APPLY NAFASI ZA KAZI TUME YA UCHAGUZI TANZANIA (NEC) 2019

i. The Chairperson who must have been the Judge of the High Court or the Court of Appeal of Tanzania or a lawyer who is qualified to be a lawyer and who has been in that position is not less than 15 years
ii. The vice-chairman who must have been the Judge of the High Court or the Court of Appeal of Tanzania or a lawyer who is qualified to be a lawyer and who has been in that position is not less than 15 years.
iii. A delegation appointed from Tanganyika Law Society (Tanganyika Law Society).
iv. Other members of the people who have experience in managing and managing other options or other additional features that the President of the United Republic of Tanzania considers appropriate.
According to Article 74 (7) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania in 1977 and Article 4 (4) of the National Electoral Act (No. 1 of 1985), the Electoral Director is the Secretary of the Commission who is also appointed and President.
