UNISOC seeks to revamp East Africa’s Android market

UNISOC , a leading fabless semiconductor company committed to the Independent Research and Development of core chipsets in mobile communications is looking forward to revamp the East African security and mobile chipset platforms with high-quality and low-cost mobile products. Speaking  few days ago in Cape Town, Vice President of UNISOC , Mr Thomas Wu said experience has shown that majority in Africa are victims of fake android phones. Muhimbili saves Sh1.3billion from local cochlea implants procedures

Dar es Salaam. Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) has saved about Sh1.3 billion from carrying out cochlea implant procedures to 21 children locally. The government would have incurred about Sh2.1 billion to treat the same children abroad where it costs around ShSh100 million per a child. A cochlear implant (CI) is a surgically implanted device that provides a sense of sound to a person with severe to profound hearing loss. MNH’s Ear Nose and Throat Surgeon, Dr Edwin Liyombo said on November 18 that 10 children were implanted with cochlea by local specialists; in collaboration with Prof Lobna Shash of the Ain Shams University in Egypt.  Dr Liyombo told journalists that a total of 21 children have benefited from the service since June, 2018. “Tanzania is the first country in Africa to offer such a service in public hospitals. UHAS-Bugando clocks 15 years with 645 graduates

CUHAS is now finalizing the construction of a modern library that would accommodate 600 students at once, as part of the wider plans to strengthen its programs in undergraduate and post graduate studies. A total of 645 students in various health fields have graduated from the Mwanza-based Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences ( CUHAS ), which is 15 years since the varsity, by then a constituent of St Agustine University of Tanzania ( SAUT ), started, with only 10 students. CUHAS Vice Chancellor Prof. Paschalis Rugarabamu said at the university’s 11thgraduation ceremony that the number of graduates has increased by 54 percent. Last year, he said, the number of those who graduated was 419. Professor Rugarabamu said 42 per cent of the graduates are females, signifying that the university is making headway in achieving gender balance, with the vision of attaining a 50:50 ratio. Govt Says Over 2,100 Farmers Paid Sh1 Billion for Cashews

Tanzania Agriculture minister Japhet Hasunga says at least 2,168 cashew farmers from 35 verified primary societies have so far been paid their cash. Mr Hasunga made the comments on November 17, 2018 in Mtwara Town when addressing journalists about the progress made in buying cashews from farmers under an operation run by the Tanzania People's Defence Force (TPDF). In the meeting, Mr Hasunga was accompanied by the TPDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Yacoub Mohammed, and other officers of the force. He said the farmers had so far been paid over Sh1billion and that the payment process was still going on in different parts including Tunduru District in Ruvuma Region. "As I speak to you right now, the number of the paid farmers may have increased. We're still making payments and will ensure farmers get what is rightfully theirs," said Mr Hasunga. Tanzania: World Bank - Tanzania's Stance On Pregnant Schoolgirls Key to Loan Release

The World Bank said yesterday that it had agreed with the government on a new framework that would see girls who become pregnant while in school continue with their education. This came a day after the Bank's Vice President for Africa, Dr Hafez Ghanem, held talks with President John Magufuli at State House. Dr Ghanem said during a media briefing yesterday in Dar es Salaam that the WB's technical team would now start re-designing the $300 million education project it had intended for Tanzania to align it with the right of all girls in the country to go to school. "We have agreed to work on redesigning this project, together with the ministry of Education, to provide a pathway for girls who drop out of schools for any reason, to get back into the system," said Dr Ghanem.
